Services available at the organisation
We provide a high quality specialist service to anyone with a cancer
diagnosis who is attending the Cancer Centre, Belfast City Hospital for treatment (radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy).
We assess, diagnose and treat anyone experiencing difficulties with swallowing and communication e.g. problems with speaking, understanding, voice production and jaw opening (trismus).
These difficulties can arise from disease and/or the treatment.
Patients can be seen before, during or after their medical treatment depending upon their individual need.
The service is provided on an inpatient, outpatient and outreach domicillary basis.
We also offer specialist Speech and Language Therapy advice to miminise the impact of the side effects of radiotherapy, on swallowing, communication and jaw opening

Referral can be made by phone, direct face to face or by completion of a written referral form that is then sent to the Department.
The service is provided to patients attending the Cancer Centre who have agreed to be referred to the Speech and Language Therapy Team. Contact the department for details.
