How does cancer of the vulva spread?
Squamous cell cancer
of the vulva normally grows slowly, but if left untreated it may spread to nearby organs such as the vagina, the anus
and the urethra (the tube where urine comes out).
It may also spread to the lymph
nodes
in the groin, at the top of the thigh.
Once in the lymphatic system
, cancer cells
can travel to other parts of the body and start growing there. These cancers are called secondary cancers or metastases
.
