Income Support
This is a weekly, means-tested benefit for people on a low income. It's for people who dont have to sign on for work, such as carers or single parents. You must be aged between 16 and the age at which they can claim Pension Credit. it is intended to cover your basic living expenses.
If you are unemployed and looking for work, you can cliam Jobseeker's Allowance instead. You can claim Income Support if your savings andcapital are worth £16,000 or less. The value of your home is usually ignored.
You can't usually get Income Support if you work more than 16 hours a week (or if your partner works more than 24 hours a week). If you receive Inccome Support, the amount will not be reduced if you or your partner claim Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance - in fact, you may become eligible for more.
