How does cancer of the uterus spread?

If left untreated it can spread from the lining of the uterus deep into the muscle wall.

From there it may spread to nearby body parts such as the ovaries, cervix and vagina.

Cancer cells may also break away and get into the lymph nodes of the pelvis. Once in the lymphatic system the cancer can travel to distant parts of the body such as the lungs and bones, and start growing there. These cancers are called secondary cancers or metastases.
