Where is the bladder and what does it do?

The bladder is a hollow, balloon-like organ that lies in the pelvis. Its job is to store urine. Urine is the water and waste products the body doesn’t need.

The kidneys make urine, which then travels to the bladder along two tubes called the ureters.

When your bladder gets full you need to empty it by going to the toilet. At this stage the urine passes through a tube (the urethra) that leads from the bladder to the outside of the body.
