Does the doctor have to ask my permission before entering me for a trial?

Yes. Your doctor must ask you whether you want to join the trial and must give you written information about it. You will need to understand what is involved in taking part in the trial and consent to treatment before it can go ahead. Your doctor will give you an information sheet and a consent form to sign.

Remember you are free to say no, or to ask for more information before you make up your mind.

If you say no, you will be given the best available standard care.

About 'consent'

When a doctor, nurse or therapist asks you to agree to any form of examination, treatment or care, you are free to say no, or to ask for more information before you make up your mind.
